Marrakech Atelier Nihal, Weaving it’s Magic.

         

I went to see Ateilier Nihal today where I discovered an ancient Marrakchi tradition being re vamped. Marrakech and it surrounding areas has always had a rich tradition in weaving. They make fantastic wool carpets, silk and wool fabrics, baskets and sea-grass product.

The Atelier Nihal have adapted and moved with the times and are now producing fantastic cushions, throws, bag’s, boxes and lampshades. Using a combination of fabric strip’s such as leather, wool, bead’s taffeta’s and organza, in modern contemporary styles. All woven on looms by skilled Marrakchi craftsman.

                                                                     

The company is run by the talented Marion and Lauren Verdier who have designed all of the beautiful woven patterns and put them together in tasteful classic colour schemes. My favorite is the leather taffta combination.

Their show room is based at No 366 Q.I Sidi ghanem in the industrial area on the outskirts of Marrakech, the company will be exhibiting at the end of this month at the Riad Art Expo here in Marrakech.
