The Café du Livre. Marrakech

Sometimes in Marrakech It can be so terribly hot that you can’t move, and then it can be so cold and wet that all you want to do is stay in bed and while our Moroccan counterparts are all outside biskly embracing the sudden downpour and thanking their lucky stars the rest of us who are maybe visiting to seek some winter sun are left not really sure what to do with ourselves…

So here’s what I suggest you do if you find that the souk has gone all squishy, the museums are too chilly and the Gardens are just a washout……..

The  Café du Livre

If you’re a bit of a bookworm like myself and enjoy nothing more than curling up on a rainy day or sitting in the shade on a sunny one with a good book then this is the place for you. Here in cosy and comfortable surroundings you will be sure to find a book of your choice, as after all there are more than a a thousand to chose from. And don’t worry if you can’t finish your book while you are there as many of them are for sale.

This stylish Cafe is extremely significant to the English speaking community not only is it The place in  Marrakech that artists, designers and literary types like to hang out, its a meeting place  for our community where events are held, and get togethers are planned.

You are welcome to stay as long as you like, you can bring your laptop and come for breakfast, check your e-mails read over the newspapers. (And the great coffee menu, Vanilla Latte, Spiced Latte, and Orange Mocha Latte to name but a few. Starbucks eat your heart out…) and before you know it, it’s lunch and  you get a chance to taste a dish from the Café du Livre menu and also sample something from their great wine list. (This in many of their choices can be bought by the glass.)

And if it still looks a bit iffy outside why not spend the afternoon playing a  leisurely game of chess by the roaring fire until the evening aperitifs are served along with free tapas…..
